ChatGPT slower or worse? Network, IP and account checks

Check the account, network, IP and client in four steps rather than assuming a downgrade or switching services blindly.

First, "downgraded" is not an official diagnosis

"Downgraded" or "got dumber" describes a general feeling about answer quality, speed or missing features; it is not an official OpenAI fault name. The same question can produce different results at different times, models, networks and accounts.

Record the specific symptoms while troubleshooting. Do not conclude the account is broken from a single answer, and do not rush to buy a new account or a so-called "clean IP".

Rule out account and feature issues first

  • Confirm you are signed in to your usual account with a normal plan;
  • Confirm the selected model and mode have not changed;
  • Compare the same question on the web and in the client;
  • Check the official status page or announcements for outages;
  • If only one feature misbehaves, check that feature's quota and access conditions.

Four directions to check

DirectionTypical symptomHow to check
Account and planFeature entry missing, insufficient quota, model unavailableCheck the account, plan and remaining quota
Network and nodeSlow loading, timeouts, interrupted repliesSwitch to a stable network and avoid frequent node changes
IP and risk controlSign-in anomalies, frequent verification, limited featuresNote the prompt; do not retry repeatedly
Client and cachePage stuck, old-version errors, broken layoutUpdate the client, clear cache or use incognito

Steps

  1. Fix one test question

    Use the same prompt on the web and in the client, and record the time, model, answer length and any error. Switching questions each time makes comparison impossible.

  2. Check the account and plan

    Confirm the signed-in email, plan status and quota. Features that suddenly disappear are often an account or quota issue, not a "downgrade".

  3. Change network, but do not hop nodes

    Switch to a stable network or wired connection and see whether timeouts persist. Frequent node changes can make sign-in and verification less stable.

  4. Clean the browser environment

    Use an incognito window in Chrome or Edge, temporarily disable blocking extensions and rule out cache or script interference.

  5. Treat IP checks as clues, not conclusions

    IP reputation and residential IP are troubleshooting hints at best; they do not guarantee account stability. Do not buy expensive "clean IP" or new accounts because of one score.

  6. Record and report

    If the issue persists, gather the account email, plan, client version, error text, time and comparison results, then contact support or official support.

FAQ

Does ChatGPT really get "downgraded"?

There is no official diagnosis with that name. You may see shorter answers, slower responses or broken features, but the cause could be the model, quota, network, account or service status — check each in turn.

Does changing nodes help?

It may improve loading and connectivity, and it may also make sign-in verification more frequent. Switch once to a stable network to test, rather than hopping repeatedly.

Is a residential IP always more stable?

Not guaranteed. IP type is only a reference; account status, region, device and platform risk controls all matter.

The model says it has been "downgraded" — is that reliable?

No. A model's self-description is not an account diagnosis and cannot be used as a service commitment. Rely on actual features, quota and official documentation.

Should I buy a new account right away?

We do not recommend it. Check the account, plan, network and client first. If it really is an account problem, follow the after-sales process rather than buying an account of unknown origin because of one anomaly.

What if a verification code is needed?

If troubleshooting confirms phone verification, see the Codex phone verification guide; support arranges codes at ¥10 per use.

After-sales and notes

  • Network and IP advice is for troubleshooting only and is not a promise of stable use.
  • Account, plan and quota follow what the OpenAI account shows.
  • Order issues follow Warranty and after-sales; never give passwords, codes or Sessions to strangers.
  • If the problem relates to registration or sign-in, see the ChatGPT sign-up guide.

Still unsure after following the steps? Contact support with the test question, a screenshot of the error and the time.
