ChatGPT sign-up: web registration and first login

Before registering

• Register on the web first, then sign in to the desktop app or Codex client. Clicking "sign up" inside a signed-out client more often triggers extra phone verification.
• If you plan to upgrade to Plus / Pro, complete the upgrade and confirm it on the web before signing in to the desktop app.
• Prefer a mailbox you hold long-term that receives mail and supports recovery. QQ, 163, Gmail and Outlook can all be tried; acceptance depends on the sign-up page.
• You do not need an overseas phone number in advance. If the page does require phone verification, support can arrange an SMS code at ¥10 per use.

Registration steps

1. Open the official sign-up page

   Visit chatgpt.com in a browser and click "Sign up".

2. Choose a method

   Use whatever the page offers: email, Continue with Google, Apple or Microsoft. Remember the method — top-ups, subscription checks and new devices all sign in to the same account.

3. Verify the email

   If the page asks for email verification, open your inbox and enter the code or click the link. If nothing arrives, check the address, spam folder and filters; after resending, use only the newest message.

4. Complete your profile and enter the account

   Fill in name, date of birth and other details as prompted. Once you can use ChatGPT, check the signed-in email and current plan in settings before starting.

If phone verification appears

Registration is normally email-based, but signing in to the desktop app or triggering risk controls can still require phone verification. Handle it in this order:

1. Check the account first

   Confirm the account registered on the web is the one the client is authorising, and keep using the original method (Google, Microsoft or Apple).

2. Note the exact prompt

   Distinguish "add a phone number", "code failed to send" and "wrong sign-in method", and note the client version, error text and time.

3. Contact support when a code is needed

   Say it is ChatGPT / Codex phone verification; it is arranged at ¥10 per use. This fee is not a Plus / Pro subscription, and success depends on that attempt.

4. Enable MFA after verification

   If the account offers multi-factor authentication, bind your own authenticator and save the recovery codes to reduce later SMS prompts.

Upgrading after registration

• You do not need a subscription for a first try — the Free tier is fine to start.
• When you need more capacity, choose a plan on ChatGPT Plus / Pro, pay and submit the details as shown on the order page; our team verifies and tops up.
• The top-up applies to your own account; the order email is only for contact and order lookup. Never order using someone else's account details.
• If the account already has an active membership, confirm whether the channel supports it before ordering; ask support if unsure.

FAQ

The most common questions during registration.

Can I register with a QQ or 163 mailbox?

Try the mailbox you use long-term first. Whether it is accepted and whether extra verification is needed depends on what the sign-up page shows; do not judge by the domain, and do not buy a ready-made overseas mailbox just to register.

Do I need an overseas phone number in advance?

No. Registration and sign-in requirements differ; whether a phone number is needed depends on the prompt. If a code really is needed, support arranges it at ¥10 per use. Plus / Pro is not a service that exempts you from phone verification.

What if it says "Signup is currently unavailable"?

Record the full error, check the email address, region and service status, then refresh or clear the browser cache and retry. If it keeps failing, follow the official help guidance rather than registering new accounts repeatedly.

What if it says "Unable to load site"?

Confirm the network can reach chatgpt.com and try Chrome or Edge. If it still will not open, do not refresh repeatedly or register again — try at another time.

Can I register several accounts?

We do not recommend bulk registration to bypass verification. Keep one account you can recover long-term and remember the sign-in method; when verification fails, troubleshoot that account instead of creating new ones.
